Teacher Resume Example & Writing Guide

A teacher resume has to show classroom results, not just years served. Schools want evidence of student progress, curriculum work, behaviour management and the certifications required by their board. This example shows the structure and the exact phrasing that gets an interview.

Recommended template: Minimal White or Classic Formal

Teacher resume summary example

Secondary mathematics teacher with 7 years across CBSE and IB curricula. Raised the Grade 10 board pass rate from 82% to 96% over three cohorts and built a remedial programme now used across the department.

Example achievement bullet points

  • Lifted average Grade 10 mathematics scores 11 percentage points across three academic years
  • Designed and rolled out a differentiated worksheet bank adopted by six teachers in the department
  • Ran a weekly remedial clinic that moved 23 at-risk students to a passing grade
  • Mentored three trainee teachers through their induction year

Skills to list

  • Curriculum: CBSE, ICSE, IB MYP, lesson planning, assessment design
  • Classroom: differentiated instruction, behaviour management, inclusive education
  • Technology: Google Classroom, smartboards, learning management systems
  • Communication: parent conferences, individual education plans, staff training

What school leaders look for

Principals hire for outcomes and fit. Outcomes means measurable student progress; fit means the curriculum, age group and school culture you have actually worked in. Both belong in the top third of the page.

Certifications are a hard filter. If a role requires a B.Ed, state licence, TET, QTS or an equivalent, put it in the header area or immediately under the summary — not at the bottom of page two.

  • Named curriculum and grade levels you have taught
  • Quantified student outcomes: pass rates, average score movement, attendance, retention
  • Certifications and licences with issuing body and year
  • Extra-curricular and pastoral contributions — clubs, sports, counselling, committees

How to structure a teaching resume

Experienced teachers lead with teaching history. Newly qualified teachers should lead with education and certification, then student teaching placements written up exactly like real roles, with the same achievement bullets.

  • Header: name, 'Mathematics Teacher', city, phone, email
  • Summary: subject, level, years and one measurable result
  • Certifications: degree, teaching licence, subject endorsements
  • Experience: school, level, subject, dates, 3–5 achievement bullets
  • Professional development: workshops, curriculum training, conference sessions

Turning classroom work into achievement bullets

Most teaching resumes describe duties every teacher shares — planning lessons, marking, holding parent meetings. Reframe each duty as a decision you made and the effect it had on students.

If you do not have hard score data, use participation, completion, behaviour incidents, attendance or adoption by colleagues as your measure. Any concrete number beats an adjective.

  • Before: 'Taught mathematics to Grade 9 and 10 students'
  • After: 'Taught 140 Grade 9–10 students across five sections; raised the section pass rate 9 points in one year'
  • Before: 'Used technology in the classroom'
  • After: 'Introduced a Google Classroom workflow that cut homework submission gaps from 30% to 8%'

Frequently asked questions

Should a teacher resume include a photo?
In India and much of the Middle East a photo is common and often expected. For the US, UK, Canada and Australia, leave it off — hiring policies there generally discourage photos on applications.
How do I write a teacher resume with no experience?
Lead with your degree and teaching certification, then write your student teaching placements as full roles with grade levels, subjects, class sizes and the results you achieved. Add tutoring, coaching and volunteer teaching — they count as classroom experience.
What skills should be on a teacher resume?
Curriculum and assessment design, differentiated instruction, classroom and behaviour management, education technology, and parent communication. Match the specific curriculum names to the school you are applying to.
