Sales Resume Example & Writing Guide

A sales resume is a scoreboard. Quota, attainment, deal size, cycle length and ranking decide interviews — everything else is context. This example shows how to lay those numbers out so a sales director can qualify you in one scan.

Recommended template: Executive Blue or ATS Professional

Sales Representative resume summary example

Account executive with 6 years in mid-market SaaS. Averaged 118% of a $1.1M annual quota across three years, closed 47 new logos, and ranked top 3 of 22 reps in two consecutive years.

Example achievement bullet points

  • Closed 118% of a $1.1M annual quota; ranked 2nd of 22 account executives
  • Grew average contract value from $18K to $27K by shifting discovery toward multi-team use cases
  • Cut average sales cycle from 94 to 68 days through an earlier procurement-alignment step
  • Generated 35% of personal pipeline through self-sourced outbound

Skills to list

  • Selling: consultative discovery, MEDDIC, solution selling, negotiation
  • Segments: mid-market, enterprise, SMB, inbound and outbound motions
  • Tools: Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong, LinkedIn Sales Navigator
  • Commercial: forecasting, territory planning, renewals, upselling

Put the numbers where they will be seen

Sales leaders look for quota attainment first. Give the quota, the attainment percentage and the period for every relevant year — not a single career-best figure with no context.

Ranking is the second-strongest signal. '3rd of 30 reps' contextualises attainment against a real cohort and is harder to inflate than raw revenue.

  • Quota amount, attainment percentage and year for each role
  • Ranking within the team, where flattering
  • Deal size, cycle length, win rate and pipeline generated
  • Segment and territory: SMB, mid-market, enterprise, region
  • New business versus renewals, and your inbound-outbound split

How to structure a sales resume

Sales resumes work best with a compact metrics band under the summary — three or four headline figures — followed by conventional experience entries.

  • Summary: segment, product type, years, average attainment
  • Key metrics: quota, attainment, ACV, ranking
  • Experience: 4–5 bullets per role, every one carrying a number
  • Awards: President's Club, top performer, fastest ramp
  • Tools and methodology: CRM, sequencing, qualification framework

What to do about a bad year

Do not hide a shortfall by omitting the number — an experienced director will assume the worst. Give the figure with the context that explains it: territory change, product transition, a quota reset, a market contraction.

Follow it with what you controlled: pipeline built, deals sourced, accounts retained, process improvements adopted by the team.

Frequently asked questions

What metrics belong on a sales resume?
Quota amount, attainment percentage, ranking among peers, average contract value, sales cycle length, win rate and pipeline generated. Include the period for each so the figures can be compared fairly.
How do I write a sales resume with no sales experience?
Use retail, customer service, hospitality, fundraising or recruitment experience and quantify it — units sold, upsell rate, customer satisfaction, calls handled. Then show product knowledge and a self-sourced outreach example.
Should sales resumes be one page?
One page is ideal for under ten years. Sales hiring rewards density, so cut narrative before you cut numbers.
