Resume Format for Freshers (2026) — Structure, Examples & Free Template

A fresher resume has to make evidence out of things that are not jobs: coursework, projects, internships, certifications and positions of responsibility. Done well it fills one page convincingly. Done badly it lists a degree and a hobby. This guide shows the difference.

Section order that works for freshers

Lead with education, because it is your strongest verified credential. Follow immediately with projects or internships — these are what differentiate you from every other graduate with the same degree.

  • Header: name, phone, professional email, city, LinkedIn, GitHub or portfolio
  • Career objective: two lines naming the role and what you bring to it
  • Education: degree, institution, year, percentage or CGPA
  • Projects: 2–3 with the problem, your role, the tools and the outcome
  • Internships and training: treat these exactly like jobs
  • Skills: technical first, then tools, then languages
  • Certifications, achievements and positions of responsibility

Writing projects like real experience

The most common fresher mistake is describing a project by its title alone. A project entry needs the same shape as a job entry: what problem it addressed, what you personally did, and what the result was.

Team projects are fine — just be explicit about your part. 'Built the recommendation module and the evaluation harness in a four-person capstone' is honest and more informative than claiming the whole system.

  • Weak: 'Library Management System — Java, MySQL'
  • Strong: 'Library Management System — built the borrowing and fine-calculation modules in Java and MySQL for a 4-person team; deployed for a 1,200-book college library'

Career objective examples for freshers

An objective should name the role, your relevant strength and something specific about your training. Generic ambition statements waste your most valuable two lines.

  • Weak: 'Seeking a challenging position in a reputed organisation to utilise my skills.'
  • Strong: 'Computer science graduate with two internship builds in React and Node.js, seeking a junior frontend developer role where I can extend production UI work.'
  • Strong: 'B.Com graduate with Tally and advanced Excel certification, seeking an accounts executive role handling reconciliation and GST filing.'

Frequently asked questions

What should a fresher write in a resume with no experience?
Academic projects, internships, industrial training, freelance or volunteer work, certifications, competitions and positions of responsibility. Each entry should state what you did and what resulted — that is what turns activity into experience.
Should a fresher resume be one page?
Yes. Without professional experience, a second page almost always means padding, and recruiters read padding as a lack of judgement.
Do freshers need a career objective?
Yes — it is the one place you can state the role you want, which a fresher's work history cannot imply. Keep it to two lines and rewrite it for each application.
